  • The Center is positioned as the leading institution linked to the university world in innovation, second only to a state entity (INIA).

The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) ranks second nationally in innovation in the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026, further solidifying its position as the leading university institution for innovation in Chile.

The SIR innovation indicator evaluates the performance of universities and research centers based on their ability to generate patents and transfer scientific knowledge into technological applications.

“This recognition validates a working model that integrates science, technology, industry, and public policy. Chile needs to move towards a knowledge-based economy, and nanotechnology is a key tool for generating innovation with productive and social impact,” said Dora Altbir, director of CEDENNA and also director of Institutional Projects at Diego Portales University.

Since its creation in 2009, CEDENNA has worked to bridge the gap between science and technology. It boasts more than 20 laboratories where advanced research is conducted and a nanosafety laboratory, unique in the country, which has allowed it to be at the forefront of innovation.

The SCImago ranking, which combines indicators of research, innovation and social impact, uses data from patents and scientific publications to measure how knowledge translates into concrete technological advances and impact on society.
